Man riding electric scooter hit, killed by car in downtown Salt Lake

SALT LAKE CITY — A man who ran a red light while riding an electric scooter in downtown Salt Lake on Thursday was hit and killed by an on-coming car, according to police.

The incident happened about 11:40 a.m. at the intersection of 600 South and 500 East. A man in his early 40s was riding a scooter on 600 South when he ran a red light and was hit by a vehicle heading north on 500 East, according to police.

The identity of the man was not immediately released pending notification of family members.
