HURRICANE — The driver of a vehicle trying to flee from police in southern Utah was killed after crashing the car.

Just before 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, a Hurricane police officer attempted to stop a vehicle without a license plate, according to a prepared statement from the Hurricane Police Department. The vehicle was later determined to be stolen out of Salt Lake City.

The driver refused to pull over and took off going about 90 mph on state Route 9 through LaVerkin and Toquerville, police stated. The car went through several side streets in Toquerville before returning to the main highway, according to police.

About five minutes after fleeing from the officer, the vehicle rolled and the man driving the car was ejected. Officers pursuing the car performed CPR on the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released Wednesday.

A woman in the passenger seat, who was not ejected, was taken to a local hospital. Her condition was not released.

The crash was being investigated Wednesday by the Utah Highway Patrol.
