SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's number of COVID-19 cases has increased by 173 on Monday, with one more death and 2,326 vaccinations reported, according to the Utah Department of Health.
There are now an estimated 9,242 active COVID-19 cases in Utah, according to the health department. The rolling seven-day average number of positive cases per day is now at 397, according to the health department. The positive test rate per day for that time period reported with the "people over people" method is now 7.1%. The positive test rate per day seven-day average calculated with the "test over test" method is now 3.5%.
There are now 121 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah including 47 in intensive care, state data shows. About 64% of all intensive care unit hospital beds in Utah are now occupied, including about 67% of ICU beds in the state's 16 referral hospitals, state data shows. About 47% of non-ICU hospital beds are now occupied in Utah, state data shows.
A total of 1,498,039 vaccine doses have been administered in the state, up from 1,495,713 Sunday. A total of 976,434 Utahns have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 565,539 are now considered fully vaccinated. A total of 1,734,950 vaccine doses have been shipped to Utah so far.
The new numbers indicate a 0.04% increase in positive cases since Sunday. Of the 2,413,193 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 16.1% have tested positive for COVID-19. The number of total tests conducted during the pandemic has increased to 4,294,735, up 3,778 since Sunday. Of those, 2,111 were tests of people who hadn't previously been tested for COVID-19.
The death reported Monday was a Utah County woman who was between the ages of 65 and 84 and was hospitalized when she died, according to the health department.
Monday's totals give Utah 387,514 total confirmed cases, with 15,625 total hospitalizations and 2,133 total deaths from the disease. An estimated 376,139 Utah COVID-19 cases are now considered recovered, according to the health department.
Utah House Bill 294, which is also known as the state's COVID-19 "endgame" bill, requires that all state and local Utah health orders related to the pandemic end on the day that the state's 14-day case rate is less than 191 per 100,000 people, the seven-day average of COVID-19 intensive care unit usage is under 15%, and 1,633,000 prime doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been allocated to Utah.
As of Monday, the state is meeting the threshold in the first two metrics. The 14-day case rate average is 179.4, and the seven-day COVID-19 ICU average is about 9.4%, according to state data. However, Utah has been allocated only 920,515 prime doses of the vaccine as of last week, according to health officials. The state is expected to reach 1,633,000 prime doses allocated in the second or third week of May, according to the health department.
