SALT LAKE CITY — There were 344 new COVID-19 cases in Utah with no new deaths, according to an update provided by the Utah Department of Health Sunday.
The rolling seven-day average number of positive cases per day is now about 400 cases per day, according to the health department. That's a decline of six from Saturday, according to updated data.
Utah's rate has been above 400 new cases per day since Sept. 9, 2020. It reached as high as 3,392 new cases per day in November and 3,258 per day in early January.
Meanwhile, the positive test rate per day for that time period reported with the "people over people" method is now 7%. The positive test rate per day seven-day average calculated with the "test over test" method is 3.4%.
The health department reported Sunday that 14,350 more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered. In all, close to 1.5 million total vaccines have been administered in the state.
Nearly 975,000 Utahns have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and the state is expected to surpass 1 million this week. The state reports that 564,824 Utahns have been "fully vaccinated," meaning they have either received both doses of a two-dose vaccine or the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which is a one-dose vaccine.
The health department also reported Sunday that there are 129 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah due to COVID-19. That's five fewer than what was reported Saturday. Forty-five of those hospitalized patients were in intensive care units.
Sunday's totals give Utah 387,341 total confirmed cases, with 15,608 total hospitalizations and 2,132 total deaths from the disease since March 2020. The new numbers indicate less than a 1% increase in positive cases since Saturday.
Of the more than 2.4 million people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 16% have tested positive for COVID-19.
