GRANTSVILLE — Tooele County prosecutors have charged a man in connection with the 2019 kidnapping and sexual assault of woman who was left naked on the side of a road in Grantsville.
Martin Mau Jock Kol, 27, of Salt Lake City, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with aggravated sexual assault, aggravated kidnapping, forcible sodomy and aggravated robbery, all first-degree felonies.
In May of 2019, a woman reported to police that she had been held against her will in Kol's vehicle and was physically and sexually assaulted as Kol and at least one other man drove around, never slowing down enough for her to jump out, according to a police affidavit filed in court.
"The victim also reported her clothing and other items were taken from her by force and she did not get them back. She was dropped off within Grantsville city limits naked on the side of the road. The victim had to walk to an area where she saw lights to call for help," the affidavit states.
The woman identified Kol as a suspect. Police say she was being sexually exploited by Kol for allegedly owing money on a drug debt. But it wasn't until August of 2020 when Kol was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on another crime that a DNA sample was collected from him and compared with DNA samples taken from when she was assaulted, according to the affidavit.
Kol was booked into the Tooele County Jail on Thursday.
Two others have already been charged in connection with the investigation, according to police.
Kol has been arrested 24 other times for investigation of crimes including robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping and unlawful detention, the affidavit states.
