WEST JORDAN — A man who came into contact with a 9-year-old girl after the used cellphone she received automatically linked her to an old Facebook account is now accused of trying to solicit the child.

Taylor Joshua Bishop, 29, of West Jordan, was charged Tuesday in 3rd District Court with enticing a minor, a second-degree felony; and lewdness involving a child, a class A misdemeanor.

According to police, in November a Holladay family gave their 9-year-old daughter a used cellphone. The girl created a Facebook account on the phone, which automatically linked to the Facebook page of the previous owner, a 20-year-old woman, according to charging documents.

The girl got into the messenger app where Bishop sent her a message, the charges state. The girl told Bishop she was 9, but he still sent her messages that were sexual in nature as well as an explicit picture, according to the charges.

When questioned by police, Bishop admitted he asked the girl to have sex with him, "but claims that he was just playing around," the charges state.
