DRAPER — The first outbreak of COVID-19 among female housing was reported on Friday by the Utah Department of Corrections on its Facebook page.
According to the department's statement, the outbreak was identified at the Timpanogos Facility in Draper when several women reported COVID-19 symptoms. The women were rapid tested and several of the tests came back positive resulting in Timpanogos 1 and Timpanogos 2 being placed on quarantine. Large-scale testing in Timpanogos 1 and Timanogos 2 has since been initiated, the statement says.
Utah Department of Corrections said that as of Feb. 10 there are 123 active cases of COVID-19 in the following facilities: Utah State Prison in Draper, the Central Utah Correctional Facility in Gunnison, and at the Utah County Jail. Outbreaks are currently present in the following areas: Timpanogos 2 and Elm.
The department is reporting 2,922 incarcerated individuals medically recovered from the virus.
