TOOELE — Three people wanted in connection with a triple homicide case out of Humboldt County, California, were arrested by Utah Highway Patrol troopers on I-80, officials confirmed Thursday.
UHP located two vehicles connected to the case at 2 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post. One vehicle stopped and a woman was detained; the second vehicle failed to stop for troopers, and a short pursuit ensued.
According to UHP Lt. Nick Street, the agency had a bit of an "advanced heads up" and had prepared a helicopter and the Department of Public Safety's Special Emergency Response Team to assist in the arrests.
The Highway Patrol spiked the tires of the vehicle that two men were in and took them into custody, Street said. Troopers are working to process the evidence in the vehicle and sort out extradition.
Mauricio Eduardo Johnson, 18, was taken into custody on suspicion of the murder of three Bear River Band of the Rohnerville Rancheria Reservation residents; Von Eric Keener, 46, was taken into custody on a parole warrant; and an unnamed woman was also detained.
