SALT LAKE CITY — A group of kayakers were floating on the Jordan River past the International Gardens when they found a body lying on the east bank, police said Sunday.
The group reported finding an adult male along the riverbank at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, Salt Lake City Police Lt. Steve Wooldridge said.
Investigators are still working to determine a cause of death, and it is too early to tell if any foul play was involved, officials say.
"Initially when Salt Lake City Fire Department also arrived and with their water rescue team and determined that the individual was, in fact, deceased, that goes into the investigation process," said Wooldridge.
Wooldridge also noted that this type of "wildland interface drowning" is unusual for the area, so a lot of information will come from the state medical examiner's reports.
