TAYLORSVILLE — Unified Police responded to an accident that left one person in critically injured on Sunday evening.

A 36-year-old man was hit by a minivan while walking across a crosswalk just after 5 p.m. The accident occurred outside an apartment building at 4430 S. Atherton Drive in Taylorsville, according to a UPD tweet.

Unified Police Sgt. Melody Cutler said the minivan was driving westbound on 4430 South, in the area of 800 West. The driver told investigators that the sun was in their eyes and caused them to run a red light, Cutler said.

The victim was transported to Intermountain Medical Center and is still in "extremely critical condition" as of 9 p.m.
