ST. GEORGE — A paraglider suffered serious injuries Friday after authorities say he fell to the ground in an area outside St. George.
The incident took place about 5 p.m. in an area of Washington County just outside St. George, near the Zen Trailhead southwest of the city, according to Washington County Sheriff's Sgt. Nate Abbott.
Witnesses told authorities that there was a change in the wind, which caused the man's parachute to collapse, Abbott said. The man, who is about 35 years old, fell to the ground and he suffered some serious injuries.
The man was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George via a medical helicopter, Abbott said.
Washington County Search and Rescue, along with Gold Cross, the St. George Fire Department and LifeFlight, responded to the area, Abbott said.
Further information about the incident was not available.
