Update: Unified Police Department identified on Friday night the two people who died as the driver, Dallas Bench, 18, from Midvale and Felisha Sherie Hart, 27, from Millcreek. No were given updates on the condition of the others.
MILLCREEK — Two people were killed and four others critically injured in a high-speed three-car collision in Millcreek.
Just before 3 p.m. Friday, a police officer had just started his shift when he saw a Honda "driving very fast southbound on Highland Drive," according to Unified Police Sgt. Melody Cutler.
"The officer just left roll call at the Millcreek substation," Cutler said. "And as he was pulling out, he saw them flying. He attempted to pull them over, and they sped up."
The officer slowed down and turned off his lights, and he let dispatchers know that he was not going to pursue the reckless driver.
"We have a policy that we don't pursue traffic violators," Cutler said. But within seconds, the Honda ran a red light at 4500 South and "T-boned a Range Rover."
The Range Rover was driving by a woman and was traveling east when it was hit.
"It was hit on the driver's side and rolled onto another car," Cutler said. "The Honda started on fire, and the officers got the fire put out and started administering first aid."
The male driver, age 18, and the front-seat passenger, a woman, 27, were declared dead at the scene.
"There were three back seat passengers," Cutler said. "All three went to hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Range Rover, was the (car's) solo occupant, and she was pinned and had to be extricated. She went to hospital in critical, although she was conscious the entire time."
Police have not yet released the names of those killed in the accident as they were in the process of notifying their families Friday evening.
