VERMILLION, Sevier County — A driver died Thursday morning after colliding nearly head-on with a pickup truck on state Route 24, Utah Highway Patrol officials said.

About 11:42 a.m., a Geo Tracker was southbound on S.R. 24 when a northbound Chevrolet pickup truck crossed the center divide and struck the southbound car almost head-on.

The Chevrolet rolled at least once before coming to a rest on its roof. The driver, who wore a seat belt, suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Geo Tracker wasn't wearing a seat belt and troopers said he died instantly on impact.

On Friday, troopers identified the driver as 83-year-old Jerry V. Julander, of Monroe.

The driver of the pickup is cooperating with authorities and impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash.

The crash is under active investigation.
