LAYTON — Layton police are investigating a suspicious death Tuesday after a woman was found submerged in Kay's Creek.
Kristen Culhane, 46, of Layton was reported missing by a friend on Saturday; on Wednesday, police announced that she had been identified as the woman found earlier.
Just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, a man called police stating that he thought he could see a woman submerged in the creek, according to Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman. "The creek runs behind some homes in that area and along a trail," Lyman said, "and he thought he could see a woman's body there."
Officials responded and confirmed there was a deceased woman in the creek south of Gentile Street "kind of near Dawson Street."
Culhane's cause of death is unknown.
Police are treating her death as suspicious. "There's really no obvious reason or explanation," Lyman said, "why she would end up where she is. So it is suspicious at this point."
He encouraged anyone in the area who may have seen or heard anything to contact Layton police. "We could use any information, any help we could get at this point," Lyman said.
Anyone with information about Culhane's death is asked to contact police at 801-497-8300.
