WETUMPKA, Ala. — We’ve all seen football games where teams are trailing with only seconds remaining, then somehow pull out outlandish wins. The infamous Standford vs. Cal game in 1982 has long been considered the gold standard, given its added ingredient of confused marching band members.

Now, the Hillcrest Patriots of Alabama are here to claim the crown. Down by 2 points with less than 3 seconds remaining, Hillcrest used nine laterals to win the game. That’s not a typo. There were nine laterals, and plenty of other shenanigans, on this final play.

Ultimately, it was the same player who kicked off the action who ended it. Quarterback Ethan Crawford tossed a pass to his running back, then after all the ensuing chaos, ended up picking up the ball and scooting 44 yards for the score.

As the old saying goes, "Never mind, I’ll just do it myself!"
