LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- A woman who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the stabbing death of her husband has been sentenced to one to 15 years in prison.
In October, Bonnie Rae Harper, 57, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree felony manslaughter in the Aug. 21 slaying of James Leon Harper.
First District Judge Thomas L. Willmore said Wednesday that Bonnie Harper had been in an abusive relationship with her husband for 27 years but that it wasn't up to her to take his life.
Bonnie Harper's attorney, David Perry, said she acted in self defense after her husband choked her and pinned her against their home's kitchen sink. Bonnie Harper's children said she doesn't deserve to go to prison for the rest of her life.
