OSSETT, England, Sep 24, 2004 (PR Newswire Europe via COMTEX) -- A healthier heart, less fatigue and increased flexibility are just some of the benefits gained from eating omega 3 oil, but recent research has shown that consumption levels in the UK, particularly among young women aged 25-34 years are worryingly low.
But now the makers of Pure Dairy-Free spreads have added omega 3 oil to their popular Pure Sunflower spread.
Omega 3 oils are essential fatty acids that cannot be produced in the body and must be provided through our diet. They have been shown to help maintain a healthy heart when eaten as part of a balanced diet.
The British Nutrition Foundation recommends that we increase our intake because people that eat diets rich on omega 3 fatty acids tend to have healthier hearts. In addition Omega 3s can also help the body's immune system work effectively and people eating diets rich in omega 3 may be less fatigued, have supple joints and better mobility.
Nutrition consultant, Dr Janice Harland said: "There is considerable evidence to suggest an enhanced intake of omega 3 is associated with a number of health benefits, one of the most important being improved heart and vascular health, and reduced susceptibility to irregular heartbeat.
She added: "Spreads are an important source of omega fatty acids, but many only supply the omega 6s. Pure Sunflower contains 0.4g omega 3 in every 10g serving. Using new Pure Sunflower daily could increase your intake of omega 3 by 1gram per day and help to achieve the correct balance of omega 3 and 6 in your diet. This is about the amount used on 3-4 slices of bread or toast."
Pure spreads are ideal for both adults and children including those on a vegetarian or vegan diet. All three spreads - Pure Sunflower, Pure Soya and Pure Organic are free from dairy products and gluten. They are also all made without using genetically modified ingredients, hydrogenated oils, artificial flavourings, colourings or preservatives.
Pure can be used for creating tempting treats and fantastic meals, as well as for simply spreading on toast or in sandwiches.
Pure recipe booklets are available free of charge from the Customer Information Line 0800 028 4499 or via the Pure website www.purespreads.com. The website also features nutritional information, tasty recipes and competitions with great prizes.
