WASHINGTON, Jan 12, 2005 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Capitol Hill workers have been told not to drink or cook with water from faucets because of excess lead levels, the Washington Post said.

An e-mail sent last week from the architect of the Capitol to Capitol Hill employees said that tests had revealed high lead levels in the water at the Library of Congress. More comprehensive tests are planned in upcoming weeks.

An LOC spokeswoman did not indicate how high the tests showed lead levels to be, but said employees can continue to drink from water fountains safely.

About a year ago tests by the D.C. Water and Sewer Authority showed that thousands of homes in the District also had high levels of lead.
