Friday's 4A title game between Timpview and Cottonwood may feature the most talented teams in the state regardless of classification. Both teams have multiple players who will go on to the next level.
In fact these teams feature two of the best prep linemen in the country. Timpview Tackle Xavier Sua-Filo is being recruited by LSU, USC, UCLA, Miami (FL)and Stanford along with BYU and Utah. Cottonwood Lineman John Martinez has offers from LSU, USC, UCLA, and Ohio State. You can see these future college stars perform when these two teams matchup at 2:30 on Friday at Rice-Eccles stadium.
Those two stars aren't the only talented players on the field Friday afternoon. I could write a thousand words on the rest of the talent on these two rosters. Fans will enjoy watching these two undefeated teams play for a state title.
Cottonwood has been waiting a year for this matchup. The T-birds ended the Colts season the past two years in the Quarterfinals. Now in their first State Championship appearance since 2004 the Colts can earn revenge. It would also be Cottonwood's first state title in Football.
Timpview has had to deal with the expectations that come when your school has won 3 of the last 4 state titles in the 4A classification. But this team has been just as good if not better. The T-Birds now have a state record 35 game winning streak. If they can make it 36 they will claim their 4th state title in 5 years.
