Four suspicious fires in Murray and Holladay have authorities on the lookout for a possible arsonist. All of the fires happened within a short period of time overnight, and investigators are certain at least two were set.
None of these fires were extremely large or threatening. The biggest one was a pallet fire in Murray. Two vehicles were also set on fire, as well as a trash can.
All four fires happened overnight between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., all within a perimeter of about 15 blocks.
"I awoke to police units and a fire in the garbage can here burning furiously," witness Ralph Robertson said.
United Fire Authority Capt. Wade Russell said, "There's definitely a potential of a trash can fire becoming a much larger fire if it extends into a structure or something larger than that."
Unified Fire Authority and the Murray City Fire Department are working together on the investigation. They found a liquid accelerant used at one or more of the locations.
Investigators have questioned some people seen in the area, but as of right now no arrests have been made and there are no suspects.
