Police investigating the discovery of a man's body in Payson last night have identified him and now believe the his death was a result of suicide.

Though police know who the man is, they will not release his identity to the public until his family has been notified.

Police say last night it appeared the man had been stabbed to death, but after an autopsy this morning, it appears the wounds were self-inflicted.

A man who was out walking his dog last evening discovered the man's body in a new subdivision at the south end of Payson.

Police began investigating it as a homicide, believing it was unlikely that the man had stabbed himself. But now detectives say, after the victim was examined by the medical examiner this morning with the knife found at the scene, they no longer believe he was murdered.

Lt. Bill Wright, with the Payson Police Department, said, "It's a very tragic event when anyone loses their life. We are relieved that we don't have someone out there who we are trying to find who has killed someone."
