Russians kettle bells promise to melt off the fat while they whip you into shape.
The device dates from the 18th century. The hunk of iron is no dumb bell. The bells weigh anywhere from 10 to over 100 pounds. Advocates say they provide a full-body workout.
Harinder Singh of the South Bay and Chris Lalanne in San Francisco incorporate kettle bells into their fitness classes. They say the bells engage your abdominal muscles, hips, legs and arms all in one moment.
When it comes to injuries, dislocated shoulders and pulls and strains are probably the most common.
They say people need to learn to use them properly to avoid injury. If you don't, that dumb bell could be you.
