CHICAGO, Mar 30, 2005 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- A Chicago-area warehouse distributing food and meat to more than 250 Midwest grocers has been charged with unsanitary food storage, federal officials said.

Certified Grocers Midwest Inc., and Theodore Clinnin, the former vice president of distribution, were charged with three counts of allegedly storing adulterated meat, poultry and other food products in rodent-infested conditions at a Hodgkins, Ill., warehouse.

USDA and FDA inspectors visited the warehouse Tuesday and found significant mouse infestations.

Certified distributes food, meat and poultry products to retail grocery stores in Illinois and surrounding states.

And, in a similar incident, The Gate Gourmet Storage Warehouse at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport was closed Wednesday after city inspectors found hundreds of rat droppings in the facility. The warehouse stores pretzels, beer, and other snacks for airline passengers.

Gate Gourmet was operating without a business license, city officials said.
