The investigation into a Logan murder continues this evening. A fisherman found a woman shot to death next to the Logan River this weekend. Today he talked to KSL News.
When Dr. Jim Bilskie was looking for future fishing spots along the river, he never thought he'd find a possible murder scene.
"It's pretty steep, and it's real rocky and kind of shaley. So there's nothing but the shale leading down, then there's some shrubs; and the body was kind of headfirst down the hill," Bilskie said.
At first, Bilskie hoped it was a Halloween dummy, but as he got closer it grew apparent that he was looking at a dead woman.
"Immediately, I started thinking about the people who were wondering where this person was. So I spent some time with her, said a few prayers, then thought about what I should do," Bilskie said.
Bilskie took some pictures and jotted down the area: Logan Canyon, mile marker 467. Once he got back in cell phone range, he called dispatch to report what he saw.
Cache county sheriff's investigators say they found the woman's body just down this river on the north bank, right across from a neighborhood of summer homes.
Officers interviewed some people who stayed in the Birch Glen cabins for the weekend, trying to figure out how this happened.
"A lot of decomposition had taken place, and so when that happens it's very hard to determine any trauma, bruising, things like that," explained Cache County sheriff's Lt. Matt Bilodeau.
The medical examiner discovered that she was shot in the head. Investigators also know she was in her 30s, white or Latina, 5 feet to 5 feet 4 inches tall, and weighed around 120 pounds.
She had black hair, French-manicured nails and was wearing jeans and a sweatshirt. With no tattoos or ID on her, and no missing person case she matches, investigators are working with neighboring states for leads.
"The location is minutes from Wyoming. It's minutes from Idaho; just a couple hours to Nevada, couple hours from Provo," Bilodeau said.
Investigators wouldn't say if they thought the woman was killed at the scene or somewhere else. Today, they took her dental impressions and finger prints.
