Berlin (dpa) - Egypt's Sunken Treasures, a spectacular exhibition of ancient Egyptian artefacts, set a visitor record for the Berlin venue where it guested for four months, organizers said Tuesday.
The show of 500 finds by French marine archaeologist Franck Goddio ended Monday and will next be on display at the Grand Palais in Paris from December 9 till next March.
The tally of 450,000 visitors was the best ever at the Gropius Building, a former German museum used for temporary exhibitions.
As the show neared its end and opening hours were extended till midnight, 8,000 visitors a day attended and queues formed on the street outside. The show had opened May 11 in the presence of Egypt's President Hosny Mubarak.
Berlin was the first place where the artefacts were shown to the public. They were found under water over a 10-year period at the sites of the former ports of Herakleion and Canopus and the former port of today's Alexandria.
