"I have required all of our team members to wear masks inside the dealership for three reasons," says Jeff Davis, director of operations for Volkswagen SouthTowne. "First, humility. We wear masks because we don’t know if we have COVID-19 as its clear that asymptomatic people can be contagious. Second, kindness. I don’t know the underlying health problems of the person next to me or of their children or parents. So I wear a mask out of kindness to them. Third, community: we wear masks because we want our community to thrive, want businesses to stay open, and want our community to stay healthy."

Relentless dedication and team focus

"We have a formula for success that started as a motivating advertising slogan but quickly turned into our path to success," Davis says. "‘Where Good Things Happen’ to me means that we envision a force field around our store that blocks out negativity; then inside that force field we build a culture of positivity, hard work, and focus. We expect our service and parts departments, as well as our sales, finance, and accounting departments to be optimistic, driven, and dialed-in every single day."

Keeping the message positive and encouraging

Despite the fear and anxiety of the coronavirus pandemic, Volkswagen SouthTowne did not cut off all advertising. "We have a lot of people who rely on us," Davis says. "Not just our employees and partners, but our digital and broadcast media partners as well. If we had turned off our advertising, it would have hurt our employees, partners, the economy, and our customers."
