MIDVALE — An 81-year-old motorcyclist died early Tuesday morning after a wrong-way driver crashed into him, police confirmed.
The crash happened about 5:30 a.m. near 7200 S. State Street in Midvale, according to Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray.
A vehicle was traveling north in the southbound lanes, Gray said. The motorcyclist was traveling south and collided head-on with the other vehicle.
The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital where he later died from his injuries, Gray added. The man was identified as Albert Higginson, of Midvale, on Wednesday.
The wrong-way driver was not injured and was taken into custody. Intoxication is suspected as a factor in the crash, Gray said.
A third vehicle that was turning right on State Street in the area was also involved in the crash, Gray added. The driver of that vehicle was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
Southbound lanes of State Street were temporarily closed for several hours as police investigated the crash.
