CEDAR CITY — Authorities have identified a 53-year-old man whose body was recovered from Newcastle Reservoir on Saturday morning.

On Monday, officials identified the man as Andrew Michael Rowe, of Hurricane.

Rowe’s cause of death is still under investigation. His body was transported to the state medical examiner's office for autopsy, Iron County Sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Mitchell said in a news release.

Deputies responded to reports of a group pulling a man's body out of the water on Saturday about 8:45 a.m.

Rowe and a friend had gone camping the night before and became intoxicated before going to bed, officials said.

The friend woke up the next morning in the water and crawled over rocks back to shore.

He then filed a stolen car report with responding deputies, believing Rowe had stolen his car since it was missing from the campsite.

The man was transported to Cedar City Hospital via ambulance and treated for minor injures and later released.

About 1:48 p.m. on Monday dive team members found the car about 200 feet from the shore in 15 feet of water. It was transported to the Iron County Sheriff's Office for further examination.

The death is under investigation and detectives believe alcohol played a factor in the incident.
