MAPLETON — The 22-year-old man who was seriously injured in a car crash in Mapleton Friday morning has died.
Caleb Johnson, a 22-year-old from Provo and Mapleton, had been married less than a month before the wreck, police said Saturday.
According to the Mapleton Police Facebook page, Johnson was traveling south on U.S. 89 Friday and had just passed through the intersection at 1600 North, approaching the 400 East intersection.
It appears a vehicle turned off 400 East onto the highway and cut in front of Johnson's car, police said. Johnson swerved to avoid the vehicle, "which forced him into the oncoming lane where a northbound dump truck was."
Impact was made on the front passenger side of Johnson's vehicle; both his vehicle and the dump truck then caught fire, police said.
Johnson was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, but police announced Saturday that he had died.
Police said the drivers of the involved vehicles have been identified and have cooperated with investigators. There are no indications that speeding or impairment were involved in the crash.

"At the conclusion of the investigation the case will be screened with our prosecuting attorneys to determine if charges are appropriate," police wrote.
In the social media post, police said Johnson clearly "had a positive influence in this world." He graduated from Maple Mountain High School in 2015; he was married and moved to Provo less than a month ago.
"We offer our sincere condolences to Caleb’s family, friends, and all that he impacted during his life," police wrote. "The Johnson family are valuable members of our Mapleton community and we hope all will join in offering support and condolences to this wonderful family."
