WASHINGTON TERRACE — Police say a Utah mother called them for protection from her adult son Thursday evening after he said he was armed.

According to Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Cortney Ryan, officers were sent to 5540 S. 150 East in Washington Terrace just before 6 p.m. on a domestic violence call.

The call came just hours after an Ogden police officer died and an Adult Probation and Parole agent was injured while responding to a separate domestic violence call in the same county.

The mother was able to safely leave the house in Washington Terrace; Ogden Metro SWAT was called in as the man refused to leave. Ryan said the man made statements of wanting to die by "suicide by cop" as officers were negotiating with him.

After several hours of negotiation, he surrendered peacefully and was taken into police custody. The man's identity was not released as of Thursday night.
