PROVO — One person died and three others were injured in a head-on collision in Provo Canyon Thursday night, police said.
A vehicle was driving up the canyon on U.S. Highway 189 just before 10 p.m. when it drifted over the center median near Canyon View Park and hit a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, according to Orem police.
It wasn't immediately clear why the vehicle crossed the median.
The driver of the vehicle that drifted was pronounced dead on the scene. Their name has not yet been released. They were alone in the vehicle.
The three people in the other vehicle were taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
The canyon was closed to traffic as police investigated the incident but has since reopened.
