With Halloween on a Friday night and great weather throughout the state, a record number of trick-or-treaters will be heading to the streets tonight.
A Utah man whose favorite holiday is Halloween is expecting hundreds, if not thousands, to stop by his house tonight at 690 W. 600 North in American Fork, and he's not even handing out any candy.
Ghosts, goblins, skeletons and witches, you are in for a spooky time as you walk around Dale Price's home. Creating something creepy and scary takes a lot of time to be ready for Halloween. Price said, "It takes two months to set up. Realistically, I should start three months ahead. It takes a lot of work, but it's really worth it when you see the families coming through and enjoying it so much."
The Price family started this tradition several years ago, and it attracted a few people from the neighborhood. Now it attracts a few hundred people every night, many of them drive for miles.
Even with the increased traffic, Price said his neighbors were supportive of his Halloween House. He said, "Everybody seems to really enjoy it, never had any complaints, except that their cost of getting Halloween candy for all the people who come by has increased dramatically. And so that's the only complaint I get, is we're spending hundreds on candy because of you, but they say it with a smile, and they enjoy it too."
The Prices gave up on handing out candy to trick-or-treaters a few years ago, it was getting too expensive. So now they just put the candy money into new spooky decorations.
Price gets a lot of questions such as, why do you do this? Where do you store it all? And what do you do for Christmas? He says, "I put up a tree. that's all I do. I put up a tree." Because Price expects by Dec. 25, he'll almost have all of his Halloween decorations put away for another year.
