OGDEN — Police arrested a man accused of shooting at two people over a drug dispute, critically injuring one.

Orlando Carranza-Cendejas, 23, was booked into the Weber County Jail for investigation of two counts of attempted murder, drug distribution, possession of a firearm by a restricted person, obstructing justice and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Late Sunday, police say Carranza-Cendejas went to the victim’s residence in the area of 200 N. Harrisville Road, where the man’s girlfriend answered the door.

“As victim ... walked to the door, Carranza-Cendejas pulled a firearm and shot victim ... in the chest,” a police booking affidavit states.

He then fired another round at the girlfriend, who was not hit, police say.

“Rounds from this shooting went through the walls of the address of occurrence and lodged in a neighboring residence,” according to the affidavit.

The man who was shot, whose name was not released, was taken to a local hospital where he was “in critical condition, but is expected to survive,” police wrote.

The girlfriend allegedly told police the incident was “a disagreement over narcotics between Carranza-Cendejas” and the boyfriend.

Police found Carranza-Cendejas as he was driving back to his residence. He claimed he was not trying to shoot either person, and that the victims had previously threatened him, according to the affidavit.

Officers asked Carranza-Cendejas about the gun that was used. “He stated he got rid of it after the shooting and that we would not find it,” the affidavit states.

At the time of his arrest, Carranza-Cendejas was with a juvenile relative, who was also taken into custody.

During a search of Carranza-Cendejas’ vehicle, “multiple baggies of an off-white crystal like substance were located,” the affidavit states.
