The mayors of Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County faced off today with knives to see who could carve the better pumpkin!

At the Discovery Center at Gateway, Mayor Ralph Becker and Peter Corroon, each picked out a pumpkin and carved away.

"I'm trying to make it look mean and scary for Halloween, but it's not working," Corroon said. "I'm dressed up as "Hoss" from Bonanza."

"It's supposed to be a ghost, and he's a mayor for Halloween," Becker said. "Politicians are pretty scary, particularly this year!"

While they were busy, hundreds of children were too busy painting pumpkins of their own. Harry Potter was there, so were several fairies and Tigger!

And over at the interactive KSL-set, we found a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle at the anchor desk and a group of goblins trying their hand at the weather board!

Children can go trick-or-treating in the museum galleries beginning at 6 p.m.

The Halloween "Spooktacular," goes until 9 p.m.
