STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Lamar Stevens scored 23 points to lead No.13 Penn State over Northwestern 77-61 on Saturday. Myles Dread scored 16 for the Nittany Lions. They led for all but 6:29 to win their eighth straight. Boo Buie and Pete Nance had 12 points the Wildcats, who lost their ninth in a row. The Nittany Lions improved to 20-5, 10-4 in the Big Ten.

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Anthony Cowan scored 11 of his 24 points in the final two-plus minutes, helping No. 9 Maryland beat Michigan State 67-60 with a strong finish. The Terrapins scored the final 14 points of the game after trailing by seven with three-plus minutes to play Saturday night. Cowan had the last 11 points on three 3-pointers and two free throws. The Spartans trailed by as much as 15 points in the first half and by eight early in the second half before making a surge to take the lead. Michigan State's Xavier Tillman had 18 points and 11 rebounds.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Brad Davison scored 30 points on 8-of-11 3-point shooting and Wisconsin used a 21-2 early second half run to take control of the game and send Nebraska to its school-record tying 10th straight loss 81-64. Trailing 43-41, the Badgers made 5 3-pointers in a 4½-minute stretch that saw them go up 57-45 on D’Mtrick Trice’s 3 with 13:43 remaining and take a 62-45 lead on Trice’s 3 just over a minute later. Behind Davison, Wisconsin, which averages eight 3-pointers a game, finished with 15 on 31 attempts. Hanif Cheatam scored 17 points to lead Nebraska.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Ohio State Buckeyes kept their NCAA hopes alive, topping Purdue 68-52 for their fifth win in the past six games, pulling to .500 in the Big Ten for the first time since December. All eight Buckeyes to play hit the scoreboard, led by Kyle Young with 16 and Kaleb Wesson with 13 and a season-high four steals. Luther Muhammad scored 11. Evan Boudreaux contributed 17 for the Boilermakers, while Jahaad Proctor added 15.

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Mike Tressel and Ron Burton are remaining on the defensive staff for Michigan State's football team. The team announced via its Twitter account that the two assistants would be back. A team spokesman says Burton will coach the defensive line and Tressel's role is to be determined. The Spartans hired Mel Tucker as their new coach earlier in the week after Mark Dantonio's retirement. Tressel was the defensive coordinator this past season under Dantonio and was also a linebackers coach. Burton coached defensive tackles.
