PARK CITY — Criminal charges were filed Thursday against a Provo man who police say planned to impregnate a 12-year-old Summit County girl.

Tyler Austin Erickson, 20, is charged Thursday in 3rd District Court with rape of a child and aggravated sexual abuse of a child, first-degree felonies; and enticing a minor, a second-degree felony.

Erickson used a messaging app “to make arrangements to have sex with and impregnate a 12-year-old girl. After making the arrangements, Erickson traveled to Summit County and met the 12-year-old,” according to charging documents.

The two went to a shed on property owned by the girl’s grandmother and began to engage in sexual activity, but were caught by the grandmother before Erickson could get the girl pregnant, the charges state.

Police say the two met on the Omegle mobile app, which provides online video chats with random people.

“Tyler and the juvenile victim had made previous arrangements to meet for sexual encounters if their first encounter was not successful in completing the goal of making the juvenile pregnant,” a police affidavit states.
