PISCATAWAY, NJ (AP) — Caleb McConnell scored 16 points, making all 12 of his free throw attempts, and No. 25 Rutgers nearly blew a 17-point lead before holding off Purdue, 70-63 on Tuesday night. Purdue got within 64-61 with a half minute to go, but couldn't get any closer. Jahaad Proctor led Purdue with 19 points on while Trevion Williams had 17 points and 13 rebounds.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Eli Brooks scored 20 points, Franz Wagner added 18 and and short-handed Michigan pulled away in the middle of the second half for a 79-68 win over Nebraska. The Wolverines ended a four-game losing streak, their longest since 2014-15, and won on the road for the first time this season. They did it without two starters. Senior captain and national assists leader Zavier Simpson was suspended for violating team rules and Isaiah Livers is out indefinitely after aggravating a groin injury against Illinois. Cam Mack made a season-high five 3-pointers and led the Huskers with 19 points, nine assists and seven rebounds.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Riding a five-game winning streak and closing in on its customary perch atop the Big Ten standings, the 17th-ranked Maryland women's basketball team turned around its season with a minimum of assistance from fiery coach Brenda Frese. After a 66-61 loss at Iowa on Jan. 9 dropped the Terrapins to 2-2 in the league, the players decided it was time to make this a team worthy of its stature as an overwhelming favorite to win the Big Ten. They watched film of the Iowa game without Frese and have since dedicated themselves to correcting their own mistakes. Maryland now trails first-place Iowa by one game.
