LOGAN — A 36-year-old man died in an ATV accident on Sunday evening in Cache County, authorities say.

During a late-afternoon ride Sunday, Core Pimentel, of Logan, was traveling ahead of his riding group on the Shoshone Trail when he went off a 30-foot embankment, according to Utah State Parks Lt. Eric Stucki.

Pimentel's face struck a rock, causing fatal injuries, Stucki said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pimentel's 6-year-old son was also on the ATV but was not injured, according to Stucki. Both were wearing helmets, he added.

Speed and unfamiliarity with the trail were being investigated as possible factors in Pimentel's death, Stucki said. It's not known what caused him to go off the embankment, Stucki added.

The rest of the riders in Pimentel's group did not see the accident since he was ahead of them by several minutes when it happened, Stucki said.

The Shoshone Trail system is located in the mountains east of Logan.

Sheriff’s deputies and search and rescue personnel in Cache County assisted Utah Parks and Recreation in responding to the accident, according to a news release from Cache County Sheriff D. Chad Jensen.
