UNDATED (AP) — Savon Scarver has picked up where he left off as the nation's top kick returner. The Utah State junior ran back a kick 100 yards for a touchdown for the second time this season when he went the distance against Nevada on Saturday. All five of Scarver's school-record five kick return touchdowns have come in his last 32 runbacks. Memphis' Kenny Gainwell is the first player since 1997 to have 200 yards receiving and 100 yards rushing in same game.
UNDATED (AP) — Ohio State edged past Clemson to No. 3 in The Associated Press college football poll and Wisconsin dropped to 13th after being upset ahead of its showdown with the Buckeyes. Alabama remained No. 1 in the AP Top 25 presented by Regions Bank and No. 2 LSU held its place. Oklahoma stayed No. 5 but Penn State moved up to sixth after Wisconsin's loss to Illinois. Florida, Notre Dame, Auburn and Georgia rounded out the top 10 to give the Southeastern Conference five of the top 10 teams.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — If Clemson's defense is a work in progress, the growing pains aren't showing in the box score or the scoreboard. The No. 4 Tigers appear to be as stingy as last year's national championship team. Clemson hasn't yielded more than 294 yards since the opener against Georgia Tech or 20 points since edging North Carolina last month. A 45-10 rout of Louisville was the Tigers' latest dominant performance. They held the Cardinals to just 263 yards, a field goal and a late touchdown.
MILTON, Ga. (AP) — The population of the Atlanta metropolitan area has boomed, adding 663,000 residents since 2010 to make it the fourth-fastest growing metropolitan area in the United States. The surge has helped increase the quality and depth of high school football in a state where both were already among the best in the country. Georgia has become the clear No. 4 state behind Texas, Florida and California when it comes to producing major college football players.
