LOS ANGELES (AP) — Southern California wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. has established himself as one of the most explosive kick returners in college football. However, Jones' biggest return might have been his decision to rejoin the Trojans after considering a transfer in the spring. Jones is off to a fast start in what is shaping up to be his most productive season as a return specialist.

UNDATED (AP) — Washington State coach Mike Leach is shaking up the Cougars' underperforming defense in the wake of defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys' abrupt resignation. The Cougars have made some personnel changes on a squad that is yielding 30 points per game, ranking it 10th in the Pac-12. Leach says the team is also simplifying defensive schemes that he believes were too complicated. Washington State's next game is at No. 18 Arizona State on Saturday.

UNDATED (AP) — No. 13 Oregon hosts Colorado on Friday night, looking to go 3-0 in conference play. If Oregon can keep it up, they'll have a shot at the Pac-12 title game and then maybe be at least in the conversation for the College Football Playoff. Colorado, coming off a loss at home to Arizona, have not played the Ducks since 2016, but the Buffaloes won that one 41-38 in Eugene.
