UNDATED (AP) — After a Penn State player received a letter from a fan criticizing his "awful" dreadlocks, Nittany Lions coach James Franklin opened his weekly news conference by talking about how football teams bring people together. The letter was sent to Penn State safety Jonathan Sutherland and it gained attention after his teammates posted it on social media Monday night.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State coach Ryan Day says he's impressed with the overall toughness of his team at the halfway point of the season. The No. 3 Buckeyes are 6-0 and have a welcome break before playing a Friday night game at Northwestern on Oct. 18. The Buckeyes return from Northwestern to play No. 8 Wisconsin at home.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa's offense surrendered eight sacks in last week's 10-3 loss at Michigan. Penn State is next for the No. 17 Hawkeyes on Saturday night. The Nittany Lions lead the nation in sacks. The Hawkeyes know the blueprint is there for Penn State and everyone else. They are focused on addressing the problems in practice so they don't have a repeat against Penn State.

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — For Michigan State, the speed of Ohio State is followed up this week by the strength of Wisconsin. The Spartans, who are playing back-to-back road games against Associated Press top-10 teams for the first time since 1990, are in Madison on Saturday for the No. 8 Badgers. The Michigan State defense will need to contain running back Jonathan Taylor, a Heisman Trophy candidate who has a streak of 10 straight 100-yard rushing games.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — The quarterback carousel at Maryland is back in motion, with Tyrrell Pigrome on board for the fourth year in a row. Pigrome will start Saturday against Purdue in place of Josh Jackson, who's out after sustaining a sprained ankle and foot injury in last week's 48-7 rout of Rutgers. The is the latest in a series of injuries at quarterback for Maryland over the past several years.
