SALT LAKE CITY — One Snow College student was arrested Monday after bringing a gun on the school's campus, officials said. In a separate incident, a student at a charter high school in Logan also brought a gun to his school's campus, police said.

The Snow College incident occurred about 3:13 p.m. when Denis Kharitonov was reported "waving" a gun in the student center, which was briefly placed on lockdown, officials said.

No one was threatened or hurt but students were alerted to the incident via an active threat notice.

Kharitonov was later found in his apartment and taken into custody at 4:13 p.m., according to a Snow College public safety announcement. School was back to normal by 5:20 p.m.

He was arrested and booked into the Sanpete County Jail on Monday evening for investigation of possession of a dangerous weapon on or about school grounds and disorderly conduct, school officials said.

A CO2 powered BB gun was found in Kharitonov’s apartment, officials said in the public safety announcement. Officials don't know what his motive was.

The incident in Logan happened about 12:26 p.m. when a 16-year-old boy was found at Fast Forward Charter High School with a firearm, Logan City police said.

Police didn’t know why the student had a weapon and the school was placed on lockdown earlier Monday, the school’s principal, Jill Lowe, said in a statement sent to parents.

Extra counselors were scheduled to be available to students on Tuesday, Lowe added.

Last month, a Lehi teen threatened a mass shooting at a high school parking lot, police said. Charges were pending against the 17-year-teen, Lehi police said Monday.
