MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — The last time Central Michigan's Jim McElwain coached a game in the state of Florida, it was a disaster. His return might not be much easier. Central Michigan (2-1) is a four-touchdown underdog for its matchup Saturday at Miami (1-2), and McElwain knows this will be a daunting test for his team. It'll be McElwain's first time back coaching in the state since he got fired by Florida in October 2017, midway through his third season with the Gators.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper wants Disney-owned ESPN and TV providers to "push harder" and reach agreements to carry the Atlantic Coast Conference's new channel. Cooper's office released a copy of letter Friday addressed to ESPN and Disney officials as well as to league Commissioner John Swofford. The ACC Network launched in August on numerous key providers, though Comcast and AT&T U-verse haven't reached a deal to carry the channel.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — When Old Dominion coach Bobby Wilder added Virginia to the Monarchs' football schedule three years ago, the Cavaliers were rebuilding. Now Virginia is ranked No. 21 in the country and have won four straight. Wilder says when the Cavaliers were added to the schedule, he hoped they wouldn't be this good when the teams played. The Monarchs face an uphill battle to pull off the upset on Saturday.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida State and Louisville have recently fallen on hard times. Louisville didn't win a football game in the Atlantic Coast Conference and lost all of its games against Power Five opponents in 2018. Florida State finished the season with a losing record 5-7. Both will be looking to build confidence in programs that are trying to reverse course after recent misfortunes when they matchup Saturday.

UNDATED (AP) — After two straight losses, Syracuse will try to regroup when it hosts Western Michigan on Saturday. This is the second straight matchup between the schools. The Broncos threw a scare into the Orange a year ago, scoring three straight touchdowns to open the third quarter before eventually losing 55-42.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — No. 15 UCF heads to Pittsburgh with a chance to build its resume against a Power Five conference team. The Knights (3-0) have won 25 straight regular-season games, including a 45-14 romp over Pitt in Orlando last fall. Defensive back Richie Grant says the team isn't worried about how much respect it is or isn't getting in the national polls. Grant says the team is focused on earning its respect on the field. UCF will likely start true freshman Dillon Gabriel at quarterback.
