CEDAR CITY — Police warned the public Friday in a news release about an alleged rapist whom they called a “public safety risk.”
Cedar City police learned about an alleged rape Wednesday night they say took place in the area of 576 West 1045 North.
Police have been “diligently investigating” the case since, according to the news release.
The man police are looking for is described as a white man, between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall, who was wearing a burgundy hooded sweater and a dark mask and has an average build.
Police asked residents in the area to be vigilant, aware of their surroundings and put safety measures in place to protect themselves.
Cedar City Police Sgt. Clint Pollock said police are looking to get information from people who possibly saw anything suspicious in that area on Wednesday night or who might’ve seen the man police are searching for.
He said this was the first time police have received a report of this type of incident in the area.
Pollock couldn’t release the condition of the victim, who was an adult woman.
Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to call Detective Dustin Orton at 435-586-2956.
