DEER CREEK, Wasatch County — A fire temporarily shut down state Route 189 in both directions Saturday afternoon.

According to the Utah Department of Transportation, the fire, named the Deer Creek Fire, affected U.S. Highway 189 at mile post 25 near Deer Creek and state Route 113 at the Charleston junction.

Utah Highway Patrolman Hull confirmed that, as of approximately 9:30 p.m., all lanes of U.S. Highway 189 were open and traffic was proceeding as normal.

The Wasatch County Sheriff's Office confirmed in an emailed statement that the Wasatch Country 911 Center received a call to report the fire around 3:00 p.m. The statement also said the fire is believed to have been human caused.

In an update around 8 p.m., the sheriff's office said the fire has grown to 85 acres with 5% containment. Officials confirmed that 50 firefighters are on scene working the fire.

Several other agencies, including Wasatch County EMS, United States Forest Service, Utah Highway Patrol, and Utah State Parks also responded to assist.
