Mother arrested for DUI after crashing into a pole with 2 children in car

MAESER, Uintah County — A woman was arrested on investigation of DUI Wednesday after she drove into a utility pole with two children in her car, authorities said.

Irene DeHerrera, 26, was driving in front of Maeser Elementary School, 2670 W. 1000 North, about 3:40 p.m. when she hit the pole, according to Uintah County Sheriff’s Office.

After striking the pole, her car caught fire but DeHerrera and her two young children were able to leave the car safely, authorities said.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and DeHerrera and her children received medical attention on scene. No one was taken to the hospital.

DeHerrera was arrested and booked into jail and her children were released to a family member, officials said.
