SALT LAKE CITY — If Jazz fans didn’t know the type of person newest Utah point guard Mike Conley Jr. was before Monday night, they should now.

Conley won the NBA's Teammate of the Year award and the NBA Sportsmanship Award on Monday at the NBA Award show in Los Angeles.

The dual awards show that Conley has the complete respect both of his teammates — and his opponents.

Kyle Korver, who was part of the package the Jazz sent to Memphis for Conley, finished third in the voting.

Before the show, Conley spoke publicly for the first time since finding out he had been traded.

“You kind of expected it but once it happens, all the emotions and feelings come in,” Conley told NBA TV. “But after about 35 minutes or so it all settled in and I’m very excited about the new opportunity.”

Conley was asked about his Twitter hiccup when he referred to Utah as a city.

“It’s an honest mistake,” he said “I was rushing when I was typing. I was actually in a place where I couldn’t use my phone and I made a mistake. That’ll be my last turnover I promise.”

As for his thoughts on him making the Jazz a contender, Conley said that he’s just hoping to fit in with the strong core already on the Jazz.

“It’s crazy, I'm actually thinking about it the opposite way,” Conley said. “Me coming here and the guys they already have in place. I feel like they are already there. I’m just trying to blend in. It’s an honor and humbling that people feel that way about me. I’m just going to try and bring what I can to the team and give ourselves that chance.”

During his acceptance speech, Conley also mentioned his new opportunity with the Jazz.

"Utah, I'm looking forward to it. Let's go do something special,” Conley said.
