NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Not long ago, drafting a tight end in the first round was taboo for NFL teams. On Thursday night, two might go very high. And they come from the same school. T.J. Hockenson and Noah Fant of Iowa are projected to go early as the position has become more critical to offensive success.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota has signed Isaiah Ihnen, a 6-foot-9 forward from Germany, to a national letter of intent. Ihnen joins guard Tre' Williams and center Sam Freeman in the 2019 recruiting class. Ihnen played this past season for the International Basketball Academy Munich team, averaging 13.6 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game while shooting 54.3 percent from the field.

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State has signed Julius Marble to play for coach Tom Izzo next season. The 6-foot-8 forward will be a relatively unheralded freshman along with highly touted guard Mark Rocket Watts and forward Malik Hall on an experienced team. Marble averaged 16.8 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks last season at Dallas Jesuit. He is ranked No. 366 overall in 247 Sports composite national rankings. Izzo says Marble reminds him of former Spartans standout Andre Hutson.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Illinois has signed prized big man Kofi Cockburn to a national letter of intent. The Fighting Illini announced Thursday the addition of the 7-foot, 290-pounder from Kingston, Jamaica _ the highest rated post player to join the program since Meyers Leonard in 2010. Cockburn averaged 14.8 points and 10.1 rebounds last season for prep powerhouse Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel has adjusted the targeting rule in college football. Video review officials are now allowed to overturn a targeting call if any element of the penalty cannot be confirmed. The adjustment means there will be no option for letting the call on the field stand during a review. The overtime format also was changed. Once a game reaches a fifth overtime, teams will run alternating 2-point plays instead of starting another drive at the opponent's 25-yard line.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Nevada will play its first football game ever against Iowa when the Wolf Pack travel to the Big Ten school in 2022. The two schools announced Wednesday the game will be played at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City on Sept. 17, 2022.
