Have You Seen This? The dance you do when food is life

A RESTAURANT — Eat to live or live to eat — that is the idiomatic phrase perhaps most often used when talking about our collective relationship to food.

Those who are in the former group may always fit into that one special pair jeans in their closet, but those of us in the latter group feel a bit sad for them because we know what they are missing.

If you’ll allow me to get personal (even though it’s never stopped me in this context before), I have thought about reducing the amount of butter and cream in my life. I’ve thought about getting that sensible skinless chicken breast rather than a thick slab of steak at a restaurant. Heckin’ heck, I may have even tried to embrace the "eat to live" lifestyle a few times.

But in the end, amazing food wins. Every time.

Stellar food is always the topic du jour with my family. We love to eat it, we love to talk about it, and we love to plan whole vacations around it. We’ve even tried talking our dad opening his own restaurant a few times because his grilled salmon has ruined us for all other salmon in the world (and based on my experience, I’m pretty sure that’s only like 3 percent hyperbolic.

I’m telling you this so that you’ll believe me when I say us "live to eat" folks sometimes try to keep our food enthusiasm low key so as not to scare others.

That’s why it’s so important that everyone sees the little girl in this video enjoying her food and living her best life. Her dance of pure joy after she takes a bite of her dinner is nothing short of the most perfect impression of the inner reaction of every "live to eat" person when they taste something incredible.

All I can say is it’s passionate, it’s graceful, and it’s true.
