SALT LAKE CITY — Police took a man into custody after an early-morning car chase Saturday, Unified police say.

The driver of the vehicle, Cody Ramseyer, 38, led police on a chase through Sandy and attempted to hit one of the officers who deployed a spike, police said.

At 3:57 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a suspicious car report at 36 E. Columbia Avenue in Millcreek and determined that the vehicle had stolen plates on it. The driver fled, prompting a police pursuit, Unified Police said.

Kent Hansen, a Unified police detective, said they were able to spike the car’s tires near 7200 South and 400 West in Midvale. They followed the car until its flat tires prevented it from continuing and it came to a stop near 11600 South and 700 East in Sandy.

Ramseyer was taken into custody for investigation of fleeing from police and aggravated assault on a police officer.

Editor's note: A previous version of this story said the chase ended in Midvale. The story has been corrected to show it ended in Sandy.
